Home Sweet Home: First Nations Communities in Saskatchewan


Program Information

Students will learn about traditional and contemporary First Nations life, including the history of Treaty processes and obligations, languages and literature, and artistic expression. The in-museum Discovery Box program contains a rich array of artifacts and photos, including a 'Made Beaver' token, a copy of Treaty 6, a replica Treaty medal, a replica permit, and a replica pass. It also contains examples of traditional arts, including birch bark biting, caribou tufting, and beading. Through in-classroom lesson plans, students will learn about the different First Nations groups present in the province. They will study the Treaty process and Treaty obligations today. Students will also explore reserve life today and become familiar with First Nations communities in Saskatchewan.

In-Museum Discovery Box Program

Birch bark basket, examples of fine needle and bead work, a replica Treaty medal, and a branch of sacred Cedar help tell the story of First Nations in SKThis teacher-led Discovery Box contains a rich array of artifacts and photos, including a `Made Beaver` token, a copy of Treaty 6, a replica Treaty medal, a replica permit, and a replica pass. Cost: In-museum Discovery Box programs are
$3.00 / student. Pre-booking is required.
