J.I. Case Eagle1970 - 1975

J.I. Case Eagle

Symbol of the J. I. Case machinery company. “Old Abe” once perched on the roof of the Case building in Regina. The giant eagle is on exhibit at the North Battleford WDM.

House

Former residence of Dr. Joseph Jules Hamelin, long-time North Battleford doctor. SaskTel used the building as its district headquarters from about 1960 to 1970. The house was moved to the village at the North Battleford WDM.

Advertising Sign

Grape-Nutes advertisement "To school well fed on Grape-Nuts" "There's a Reason"

Metal sign advertising Grape-Nuts, a cereal that was introduced more than 100 years ago. The sign is on exhibit in the General Store on Boomtown Street, Saskatoon WDM.

St. Peter’s Church

Anglican Church exterior and interior views

Originally a school located near Young, Saskatchewan before being acquired by the local Anglican congregation. The church was moved to the Saskatoon WDM where it is part of Boomtown Street.

Toy Locomotive

Homemade CPR locomotive. It is part of the Winning the Prairie Gamble exhibit at the Saskatoon WDM.

Jail Cell

Purchased by the Village of Watson, Saskatchewan in 1915 for use by the Royal North West Police detachment and later by the Saskatchewan Provincial Police. It is part of the RNWMP exhibit on Boomtown Street in the Saskatoon WDM.

Bookcase

Combination bookcase and desk made of oak. It is part of the furnishings of Dr. Hamelin’s home at the North Battleford WDM.

Communion Set

Belonged to Rev. Frank H. King of St. Peter’s Church, Young, Saskatchewan. He had used it during the First World War on the battlefield and in Jerusalem.

Iron Lung

Respirator used at Saskatoon’s St. Paul’s Hospital during the polio epidemic in the early 1950s. The iron lung is on exhibit in the Winning the Prairie Gamble exhibit at the Moose Jaw WDM.

Quilt

Stitched by the women of Fourth Ave. Methodist Church, Yorkton, Saskatchewan in 1899 to raise money for a new building. Local residents paid a small fee to have their names embroidered on the quilt. It is in storage at the WDM Curatorial Centre

Beaded Bag

William Fedelleck traded two loaves of bread for the bag made by a First Nations woman from the Punnichy, Saskatchewan area in the late 1890s. The bag is on exhibit at the Yorkton WDM.

deHavilland Hummingbird Airplane

Composite built by Stan Green of Calgary in 1963. Last flown in 1973, it is on exhibit in the lobby of the Moose Jaw WDM.

St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church

Built in 1918 near Redfield, northwest of Redberry Lake, Saskatchewan. The church, lit by candles, served the Polish Catholic community of the area. The church is part of the village at the North Battleford WDM.

Gopher Day Medal

Won by Margaret Butler for collecting the most gopher tails on Gopher Day at Truax, Saskatchewan in 1917. The medal is in the Winning the Prairie Gamble exhibit, Saskatoon WDM.

Norseman Mark V Airplane

Second airplane acquired by the Saskatchewan Air Ambulance Service in 1946. A few years later CF-SAM was sold to Saskatchewan Government Airways. It saw many different uses in Saskatchewan’s north including firefighting patrols by Saskatchewan’s smokejumpers, The plane is on exhibit at the Moose Jaw WDM.
