  Tour Booking Information
TOUR OVERVIEW
Your Museum visit will be divided into two segments: the tour of the exhibit Winning The Prairie Gamble and an exploration of one of the exhibit themes in the Discovery Room. During the exhibit tour, the teacher or designated chaperone will lead the group. Students will have an opportunity to view and interact with professional Museum exhibits. In the Discovery Room, led by the teacher or a designated chaperone, the students will touch artifacts, replicas and photographs provided in the selected theme’s discovery box and discuss their observations.

BOOKING PROCEDURE
1.  Each of the four Western Development Museums features a unique Winning the Prairie
Gamble exhibit. Once you have selected the Museum you wish to visit, contact the Museum
programmer to book your visit. The Museum programmer will send you a confirmation prior

members or parents to lead the second group. Advise the group leaders about what they
will have to do. Request a cheque to cover admission.

AT THE MUSEUM

1.  The class will assemble outside the Discovery Room. The WDM programmer will introduce the class to the exhibit and outline what you will do. The class will be divided into two groups for two 45 minute sessions, one in the Discovery Room, the second in the exhibit. Hand out the exhibit activity sheets to the group touring the exhibit.
2.  In the Discovery Room: The students will handle (with care) and interact with artifacts,
replicas and photographs located in the discovery box. A leader’s script in the discovery
box will assist the leader to guide the students’ discussion.
3.  In the Exhibit: The second group may be divided into smaller groups. Each group must be accompanied through the exhibit by a teacher or chaperone. A tour script for the group
leader may be sent with the confirmation of your Museum tour booking. They will view
related exhibits and rare artifacts. Interactive exhibit components will encourage further
participation.
4.  At the end of the two sessions, the class will come together in the Discovery Room to discuss what they have seen and learned.
